About We Are Engines
We Are Engines was founded in 2019 by me, Angus Carbarns. Having spent my formative years at some of the UK’s top digital agencies in marketing, strategy and UX roles, I’ve worked on a huge number of marketing, design and data project with brands large and small.
But I became disillusioned with how big agencies operated, so I founded the company with the aim of bringing specialist help to brands of all shapes and sizes.
I believe that good research, strategy and user-centred design shouldn’t only be accessible to brands with the biggest budgets. I work with organisations across a wide range of sectors, from ecommerce to the Third Sector, government and B2B.

Think user-first, never technology-first
Technology is always changing, but psychology much less so. I’m interested in getting to the heart of the human problem first and foremost. Technology in a vacuum never solves problems, it tends to create them.

Collaboration breeds better work
Working collaboratively doesn’t just help bring fresh perspectives to problems, it actively encourages us to challenge long-held biases and assumptions and produce better work.
